ANZIO R.I.S.E. Replication Toolkit: An Accelerator Format for Participatory Art, Civic Campaigns and Harbour Transition

ANZIO R.I.S.E. Replication Toolkit is a practical replication manual for coastal and harbour communities seeking to move from environmental awareness to participation, experimentation, shared evidence and transition design. Developed from the six-month ANZIO R.I.S.E. for the OCEAN participatory action-research process in the Port of Anzio, Italy, the Toolkit translates field experience into an adaptable accelerator methodology combining harbour observation, stakeholder mapping, civic participation, cultural mediation, participatory art, public campaigning, material experimentation and transition planning. The methodology is organised around three operating pillars - Civic Harbour Space, Actionable Civic Campaign and Participatory Art - and a seven-phase process: Listen, Map, Activate, Mobilise, Prototype, Co-create & Restitute, and Transition. It includes an action-research cycle, participation ladder, monitoring and ethics guidance, reusable-system readiness criteria, implementation checklists and twelve practical templates. Developed around the transition from single-use expanded-polystyrene (EPS) fish crates towards reusable alternatives in Anzio, the methodology is designed to be adapted to other harbour material challenges and local contexts. The Toolkit does not present a fixed recipe: its central principle is to replicate the process rather than the aesthetic result.
