Spiritual Feminist Literature as a Method of Literary Analysis: Consciousness, Ethical Agency, and Human Becoming
This paper develops Spiritual Feminist Literature (SFL) as a systematic method of literary analysis centred on the relation among lived or gendered condition, interior consciousness, ethical agency, transformation, and human becoming. It introduces seven analytical dimensions: lived or gendered condition, interiorisation, conscious conflict, self recognition, ethical agency, transformation, and human becoming. The method is designed as a relational rather than linear framework and includes explicit evidentiary rules, interpretive limits, and criteria for weak or invalid readings. The paper demonstrates the method through a sustained analysis of Kate Chopin’s The Awakening and situates SFL in relation to feminist literary criticism, ethical criticism, narratology, spirituality, and theories of becoming. Its central contribution is the methodological organisation of these dimensions into a transparent and contestable literary procedure.
