PPARAMETRIC ANALYSIS OF THE ROTOR BAR OF A SQUIRREL CAGE INDUCTION MOTOR USED IN SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS

This study investigates the effects of rotor bars on the performance of three-phase induction motors used in submersible pumps and focuses on the parametric analysis of a rotor bar made of aluminum or copper. This analysis examines a 55 kW, 380 V, 50 Hz, 2-pole, 8" three-phase induction motor used in submersible pumps. The rotor bar and rotor end ring of the induction motor are made of the same material. The targeted induction motor performance, depending on the rotor bar, is high efficiency and improved torque/speed ratio during nominal operation. Additionally, various characteristics of the induction motor, such as starting current, breakdown current, magnetic flux density, and manufacturing cost, are evaluated. During the study, a three-phase induction motor was first designed. Then, without changing the cross-sectional area, only material and geometric changes were made to the rotor bar and rotor end ring. The resulting motor models were simulated using the Ansys program and compared with each other. Accordingly, during nominal operation, the copper rotor bar provided high efficiency, achieving a 2.34% efficiency increase among copper rotor bar motors and a 3.94% increase among aluminum rotor bar motors. However, copper rotor bars are on average 11 times more expensive than aluminum rotor bars.
