New genus and species of semi-aquatic bug (Mesoveliidae: Hemiptera: Heteroptera) from the Kachin amber of Myanmar

A new bug, Imesovelia unispina gen. et sp. nov., is described from three specimens preserved in Upper Cretaceous Kachin amber of Myanmar. The taxon is assigned to Mesoveliidae based on the presence of three pairs of cephalic trichobothria inserted in deep cuticular pits, coxae inserted close to the ventral midline of the thorax and a well-developed ovipositor. The new genus is distinguished from other mesoveliids by a character state combination: head longer than thorax, antennae shorter than body, antennomere III longest, ventral head with a pair of long carinae, pronotum longer than mesonotum, metatarsomere II longest.Xiaoyu Zhang [[email protected]], College of Life Sciences and Academy for Multidisciplinary Studies, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, PR China; Boya Wei [[email protected]], School of Data Science, Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing 100070, China; Dong Ren [[email protected]], College of Life Sciences and Academy for Multidisciplinary Studies, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China; Yunzhi Yao* [[email protected]], College of Life Sciences and Academy for Multidisciplinary Studies, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China.
