Contemporary Sources of Musical Creativity and Their Societal Impact

This paper seeks to bring to the fore the impact of sources of musical inspiration and how it silently influences various aspects of our lives and society. It accentuates contemporary sources of inspiration from which composers draw relevant inspiration for the sole purpose of musical art composition and associated forms of music writing. The relevance of this noble course is that music scholars, artistes, musicians, among others, shall benefit from the research outcome for the advancement of music scholarship and society in general. To achieve this, the researcher adopted the qualitative research method to obtain data. Ten respondents were selected purposively across both staff and students. Research outcomes show that many musicians as well as composers now seek inspiration outside traditional sources, such as current realities, past societal or personal experiences, intuitions and aspirations, among others, to deep mystical/spiritual sources alien to known sources, with the capacity to negatively impact the consumers of their musical output.
