MACROSCOPIC EVALUATION OF THE IDENTITY OF VIDANGA, ITS ADULTERANTS AND MARKET SAMPLES

Plant occurs wild in Assam, Meghalaya and other provinces in North-East region of country. A large scandent shrub, branches long slender, terete, with long internodes, the bark studded with lenticels. Leaves coriaceous, fruit berries (globose) 3-4 mm diameter, smooth, succulent, wrinkled when dry, black. Organoleptic Study of the three samples (genuine and substitutes/adulterants) were carried out in this study. The market samples are also thoroughly examined in this study. The market sample of Vidanga collected from the different market of Amritsar, Mumbai, Jaipur, Guwahati and Kottakal.
