Information Retrieval System (IRS)
Information retrieval system (IRS) is defined as the act of finding out and retrieving information that is relevant to the user’s information needs from large information collections. The information might be contained in books, journals, research papers, web pages, documents, images and other forms of electronic information resources. Faced with increasing amounts of digital information, the user finds it increasingly difficult to find the exact information needed manually. This problem is solved by using information retrieval process where the user poses a query and gets the right information quickly. Different examples of information retrieval systems include search engines (Google) and library database systems.
