The architecture and art of the second half of the 20th century in the Czech Republic

This text lists lectures by Mr. Jan Lochman, intended primarily for university students. Since 2020, Jan Lochman has studied the history of architecture, the visual typology of buildings, building elements, and public art of the second half of the 20th century in the Czech Republic and neighboring countries. Lectures in English for the fields of history of architecture, history of art, and restoration can be presented as visiting (online) lectures. Lectures in the field of architectural history concern art and building decorations during times of scarcity, consisting of the same, but differently arranged, building elements; examples of decorative post-war modernism and a few examples reminiscent of brutalism; the popularization of unpopular post-war modernist architecture in the Czech Republic; examples of post-war emergency housing in the form of mass-produced wooden buildings of Finnish or Austrian origin in Central Europe; or a visual guide to how to recognize buildings that may contain asbestos. In addition to art and building design in times of scarcity and decorative post-war modernism, it is possible to present to art history students the topic of public art, percentage on art principle, and present the state of this public art today. For restoration students, he offers a lecture on case studies of removing two tile reliefs from walls and their partial cleaning, and an important fieldwork lecture on visually identifying buildings that may contain asbestos. These buildings are often also the bearers of art. The following is a breakdown of the lectures by field of study. The numbers on the left correspond to the numbers in the list below, where the content of each presentation is detailed.
