On-farm conservation, management and use - Poster

The poster presents efforts to conserve, manage and use traditional barley, oat, rye and wheat genetic resources in Serbia. Through collecting missions conducted in 2020 and 2021, researchers documented and collected 12 locally adapted accessions. These materials were conserved in genebanks, multiplied for characterization and distributed to farmers for on-farm evaluation. The study also promotes community seed banks, farmer seed exchanges and the preservation of traditional knowledge. This study has been financially supported through the Redesigning the exploitation of small grains genetic resources towards increased sustainability of grain-value chain and improved farmers’ livelihoods in Serbia and Bulgaria – GRAINEFIT, funded in the fourth project cycle of the Benefit-sharing Fund of the International Treaty on PGRFA.
