Applicability of Safflower Bioactive Substances in improving Gastric Health
Many natural compounds found in safflower flowers (Carthamus tinctorius) have a wide range of economic applications. Hy- droxysafflor A (HSYA), the most well-known dye extracted from flower petals, has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxi- dant properties. This short review is aimed at updating the state of knowledge about their applicability in gastrology. It is massive- ly applied in traditional medicinal drug for numerous clinical situations, particularly dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, postpartum ab- dominal ache and mass, trauma and pain of joints. It is basically used for flavoring and coloring purposes by many of the local population. Recent opinions have addressed the uses of the plant in various ethnomedical systems.
