Exploring the Role of Iranian Public Library Professionals in Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals: A National Survey

This study examines Iranian public library professionals’ awareness, practices, barriers, and training related to SDG implementation. Using a cross-sectional survey, data were collected from 464 library professionals in Iran through stratified sampling. Findings show strong SDG commitment in education, inclusion, and health services despite limited formal knowledge. A PLS-SEM model shows that training and SDG-related activities mediate the effects of awareness on sustainable practices, explaining up to 48% of the variance. Major barriers include inadequate funding, weak policy support, limited training, and technological constraints. Study recommends national capacity-building programs, stronger policy integration, and improved sustainability planning in Iranian public libraries.
