Study of sensor behavior of functionalised cellulose
Abstract An efficient and sustainable approach in the electrochemical sensing of materials has been very important and is an ongoing challenge in the field of biomedical analysis. Cellulose acetate was synthesized via microwave-assisted acetylation and evaluated as an electrochemical sensor for the detection of uric acid, along with its cellulose acetate‒polypyrrole (CAPP) composite. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed efficient functionalization and reliable composite formation. The sensing behavior was investigated using cyclic voltammetry. The sensor detects uric acid with a current density range of 0.002 to 0.0035 mA, and it reaches a peak current of 0.0263 mA at a scan rate of 100 mV/s. The sensitivity of the cellulose acetate sensor is 1.83 × 10 − 4 mA/mM cm 2 . Furthermore, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were determined to be 0.28 mM and 0.85 mM, respectively. LOD indicates the lowest analyte concentration distinguishable from background noise, whereas LOQ denotes the minimum concentration quantified with acceptable accuracy and precision, demonstrating superior sensing performance.
