Computed tomography findings of three dogs with steroid‐responsive meningitis‐arteritis and secondary acute intradural‐extramedullary haemorrhage

Abstract Three dogs were presented to a private referral centre with clinical signs of pyrexia, anorexia and neurological signs, including an acute onset of paraparesis progressing into paraplegia. Steroid‐responsive meningitis arteritis (SRMA) was suspected, and all three cases underwent computed tomography (CT) followed by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection for analysis. The CSF was heavily blood‐contaminated in two cases and showed marked pleocytosis in two cases. Coagulation testing was normal, and infectious disease screening was negative. The CT before intravenous contrast administration identified hyperdense intradural‐extramedullary material in all three cases, suggestive of acute haemorrhage. This is the first case series describing CT findings of acute intradural‐extramedullary haemorrhage occurring secondary to presumptive SRMA.
