ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS AND COMPLETENESS OF THE LIQUIDATION AND RESTORATION WORK AT THE OIL SPILL SITE
Accidental oil product spills are among the most dangerous sources of environmental pollution, as they affect soils, surface and groundwater, as well as create long-term environmental risks. The problem becomes particularly relevant in conditions of insufficient knowledge of the geological and hydrogeological conditions of the contaminated area, which makes it difficult to choose effective measures to localize and eliminate the consequences of accidents. The purpose of the study was to assess the completeness and effectiveness of the work carried out to eliminate the consequences of the engine oil spill on the territory of the warehouse complex in St. Petersburg and to develop recommendations for the completion of restoration activities. The work uses methods of analysis of design and technological solutions, reconnaissance survey of the territory, visual fixation of signs of residual pollution, sampling of soils and water at control points, as well as laboratory determination of the content of petroleum products. Special attention is paid to assessing the impact of geological, hydrological and hydrogeological conditions on pollution migration and the effectiveness of applied technologies. It has been established that, despite the significant amount of liquidation work carried out, significant residual contamination of soils, sediments, ditches and groundwater remains at the facility. The excess of the standard values of the content of petroleum products in the majority of the studied samples was revealed. It is shown that the design solutions were implemented without sufficient consideration of the section structure, filtration properties of rocks, groundwater flow structure and depth of contamination penetration. The applied drainage and bioremediation measures had a predominantly local effect and did not ensure the complete interception and removal of petroleum products. The conclusion is made about the need for an expanded geoecological study of the site, the organization of long-term monitoring and the development of a hydrodynamic model to justify further environmental protection measures.
