The genome sequence of the grey seal, Halichoerus grypus (Fabricius, 1791) (Carnivora: Phocidae)
Abstract We present a genome assembly from a juvenile female Halichoerus grypus (grey seal; Chordata; Mammalia; Carnivora; Phocidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 2,400.06 megabases and 2,387.14 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (99.54%) is scaffolded into 16 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the X sex chromosome. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 16.76 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly on Ensembl identified 18,331 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland. Species taxonomy Eukaryota; Opisthokonta; Metazoa; Eumetazoa; Bilateria; Deuterostomia; Chordata; Craniata; Vertebrata; Gnathostomata; Teleostomi; Euteleostomi; Sarcopterygii; Dipnotetrapodomorpha; Tetrapoda; Amniota; Mammalia; Theria; Eutheria; Boreoeutheria; Laurasiatheria; Carnivora; Caniformia; Pinnipedia; Phocidae; Phocinae; Halichoerus ; Halichoerus grypus (Fabricius, 1791) (NCBI:txid9711)
