Between home and organization: How support and conflict shape life satisfaction across work and family

This study examined whether work-family conflict and family-work conflict mediate the relationship between organizational and family support and life satisfaction. Although previous research has established links between social support, work-family dynamics, and well-being, less is known about how support from different life domains influences life satisfaction through bidirectional work-family conflict processes. Data were collected from a convenience and snowball sample of 258 employees from various sectors. Mediation analysis was conducted in SPSS using the PROCESS macro. Results showed that both organizational support and family support positively predict life satisfaction. However, only work-family conflict mediated the relationship between organizational support and life satisfaction. These findings suggest that support from work and family domains contributes to life satisfaction through distinct mechanisms, with work-related conflict playing a particularly relevant role in connecting organizational resources to overall well-being. By emphasizing the importance of organizational and family support, as well as work-family dynamics, this study provides valuable insights for organizations seeking to enhance employees’ life satisfaction. It also contributes to the broader academic and social discussion on the interconnection between work and family domains.
