FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL EFFERVESCENT FACEWASH TABLETS
ABSTRACT:The present study was aimed at the formulation and evaluation of herbal effervescent facewashtablets containing Aloe vera, Neem, and Turmeric for anti-acne skincare application.Conventional liquid facewash products often contain synthetic chemicals and preservatives thatmay cause skin irritation, dryness. To overcome these limitations, an innovative herbaleffervescent tablet dosage form was developed to provide improved portability, convenienceand enhanced cleansing action. Two formulations, F1 and F2, were prepared by the direct compression method using herbalpowders along with effervescent agents such as citric acid, tartaric acid, and sodiumbicarbonate. Excipients including MCC, SLS, talc, magnesium stearate, calcium carbonate, andPVP K30 were incorporated to improve tablet characteristics and performance. The prepared tablets were evaluated for organoleptic properties, weight variation, hardness, effervescence time, friability, foaming capacity and pH. Both formulations showed acceptabletablet properties within official limits. F1 exhibited faster effervescence, whereas F2demonstrated better hardness, compactness, and weight uniformity due to the presence ofcalcium carbonate and PVP K30. The tablets produced satisfactory foam formation. The study concluded that herbal effervescent facewash tablets can serve as a promisingalternative to conventional liquid facewash products. Among the formulations, F2 wasidentified as the optimized formulation based on overall evaluation parameters and tabletperformance.
