Person–organization fit and self-efficacy as drivers of innovative work behavior for sustainable organizational development and SDG achievement

Innovative Work Behavior (IWB) is increasingly recognized as a critical driver of sustainable organizational development and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Despite growing scholarly interest, the integrative mechanisms linking Person–Organization Fit (P–O Fit) and Self-Efficacy to IWB remain fragmented across disciplinary silos. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether the integrative model of P-O Fit and Self-Efficacy provides superior predictive power for innovation behavior compared to partial approaches, while also mapping the research architecture through Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA). The study used the SLNA methodology, integrating a systematic review with bibliometric network analysis. A systematic search of Scopus (2020–2025) yielded 207 screening articles, 32 high-quality studies (9536 participants) for the final synthesis. Co-occurrence network analysis using VOSviewer identified theme clusters and temporal evolution patterns. The integrative model showed a 37–68% increase in explained variance (R 2 = 0.43–0.47) compared to the partial model (R 2 = 0.28–0.35). Self-efficacy emerged as the dominant predictor (r = 0.52) versus P-O Fit (r = 0.41). Bibliometric analysis identified 13 theme clusters with self-efficacy as the central hub and P-O Fit a hot topic with 180% growth (2023–2024). Cross-validation achieved 98.7% alignment. SLNA demonstrated the superiority of the integrative model in predicting innovation behavior, with self-efficacy as the primary mediator and cultural context as a significant moderator. This study contributes to sustainable development by supporting Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 9 Industry Innovation and Infrastructure through enhancing employee innovation capability and organizational competitiveness.
