Structural and gamma–beta induced thermoluminescence behavior of SSR-synthesized Sm 3+ activated yttrium oxide phosphor for dosimetry applications
This investigation reports the behavior of beta and gamma rays irradiated samarium-activated yttrium oxide and their thermo luminescence properties. That phosphor was prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction (SSR) method. Structural study was confirmed by XRD pattern and confirmed a cubic structure with m-3 point group and Ia-3 space group symmetry. SEM, EDX and FTIR studies were used for their morphological and elemental analysis, which confirmed that the prepared phosphor is present with an agglomerated morphology. Under the thermo luminescence study, variation of doping in Sm+3 (0.5–2mol%) and optimization of the phosphor (at 1mol%) were used for the dose response to UV (2–10 min exposure), beta (20–40Gy exposure) and gamma rays (30–50Gy exposure), and the maximum response was obtained in UV, beta, and gamma-irradiated TL glow curves, which show intense peaks at 480, 508 and 570 K respectively. TL graphs were deconvoluted by decovolution techniques and found that the activation energy lies between 0.7531 and 1.5252 eV. Prepared phosphors may be applicable in sensing devices due to their linear thermal response, against beta and gamma radiation.HIGHLIGHTSSSR-synthesized phosphors were validated by XRD, EPX and FTIR.Spherical structure of samarium-doped yttrium oxide phosphor validated by SEM.Beta and gamma dose response with the variation of doping.Prepared phosphors show a linear thermal response against beta and gamma radiation.Phosphors may be applicable in senescing devices.
