Tetra-supercell metamaterial-based multispectral plasmonic refractive index sensor for biological sensing applications

This study examined the detection of biological threat agents using a multispectral nano plasmonic refractive index sensor based on a tetra-supercell metamaterial. Four T-shaped supercells with the cells facing one another make up the suggested configuration. The three-dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) approach confirmed the validity of the results. The detection of biomolecules in conventional biosensors that contain very limited amounts of analyte is challenging and requires the use of sensors with high sensitivity. Based on our findings, the designed structure exhibits sensitivities of 602 and 1607.1 nm/RIU in modes I and II. This structure is a good choice for multispectral applications because it has two resonance modes. According to our findings, there is good potential for the suggested structure in a range of biological applications. Ag’s exceptional plasmonic qualities, when paired with this novel structure, allow for the remarkably sensitive is designed for refractive-index sensing and may provide a promising platform for future aptamer-based detection of E. coli following experimental validation. Our design includes a unique arrangement that allows the cells to make maximum interaction with the analyte of interest. This optimized structure provides suitable conditions for increasing the sensitivity and accuracy in detecting analytes. Considering the sensitivity, the proposed structure is a good choice to utilize in the detection of biological threat agents.
