Comparative Evaluation of In-Vitro Antidiabetic Activity of Selected Herbal Extracts Using α-Amylase and α-Glucosidase Inhibition Assays

ABSTRACTBackground: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistenthyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Inhibitionof carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes such as α-amylase and α-glucosidase is an establishedtherapeutic strategy for the management of postprandial hyperglycemia. Medicinal plants arerich sources of phytoconstituents with potential antidiabetic activity and fewer adverse effectsthan synthetic drugs.
