Case report of an unusual cecal metastasis of a primary cervical squamous cell carcinoma
OBJECTIVE: Cervical cancer is characterized by local invasion and complications that contribute to high mortality. Squamous cell carcinoma commonly spreads to regional lymph nodes and distant sites such as the lungs and liver; however, cecal metastasis is rare (<2%). Herein, we present a case of complete remission following systemic chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy. CASE REPORT: We report a case of cervical cancer with cecal metastasis, initially detected as focal wall thickening and a cystic lesion in the cecal region. Diagnosis was confirmed using 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT). The patient underwent systemic chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy, resulting in a favorable therapeutic response with tolerable toxicity. CONCLUSION: In patients with cervical cancer, distant metastases, including intestinal metastasis, should be considered even during early stages. PET/CT remains the diagnostic standard for identifying such metastases, and induction chemotherapy followed by chemoradiotherapy may offer a viable treatment strategy for stage IVB disease.
