The documentary basis of the Van Gogh death narrative: a source-critical re-examination of the correspondence

A systematic re-examination of the documentary basis of the accepted account of Vincent van Gogh's death, working from the full XML of the Jansen, Luijten and Bakker edition of the correspondence (Van Gogh Museum and Huygens ING, 2009). All sweeps are run over both layers of the edition - the original as written and the editors' English translation - with editorial annotation excluded, and are reported separately. Derivations are stated for each result so that a reader can repeat them from the published edition. This deposit fixes a date of record for findings established before submission to a journal.
