An actionable field practice integrated with real-time quantitative vector surveillance for precision intervention during the 2025 Chikungunya outbreak in Foshan
Following the activation of Level III emergency response, China's grassroots public health systems, exemplified by initiatives like the Patriotic Health Campaign and community-based prevention networks, can be rapidly mobilized. To enhance precision in controlling China’s first large-scale chikungunya fever outbreak in Shunde, Foshan, Guangdong Province, real-time quantitative surveillance was implemented. Real-time quantitative surveillance was conducted using MS400 traps and Intelligent Mosquito Ovitraps (IMTs) to monitor Aedes mosquito populations. These tools established a rapid monitoring network in Foshan, enabling daily data reporting with high spatiotemporal resolution. During comprehensive and targeted vector control phases, real-time data from MS-400 and IMT informed adaptive adjustments in local control strategies, optimizing resource allocation and intervention timing. This integrated field practice combining advanced surveillance technologies with community mobilization validates a scalable framework for precision Aedes -borne disease control, yielding actionable insights into mitigating emerging arboviral threats in resource-limited settings.
