Phase Algebra IV: Kernel. A Scriptural Motivation for Phase Tuning in the Singular Value Decomposition (Design Note, Part IV)

Parts I-III of this work read matrices, matrix families and tables as networks of Clifford multivectors, and reported measured results and measured failures. This note is different in kind: it is a design note, and it is honest about where its motivation came from. Every structural decision recorded here was first reached as an image from the Gospels and only then checked against mathematics — with the checking, not the image, deciding what survived. Four images survived and became precise objects: an element that commutes with everything (the centre of the algebra, fixed only up to sign); a descent into one further dimension where asymmetry ceases to be asymmetry (unitalization, realized as the polar decomposition); a second such dimension of opposite signature, in the same equivalence class as the first, whose rotors are hyperbolic and therefore carry scale (the boost that produces the singular values); and listening in place of descending — orienting by the response to a probe rather than by a gradient, which is quantitatively better because the Rayleigh quotient is second-order accurate where a gradient is first-order. Three images were corrected by the mathematics and are reported as corrections: absorption cannot be algebraic (an absorbing element is zero); death and resurrection cannot be one ring (0 = 1 collapses it) and must be two algebras related by an embedding; and a permutation reorders correctly computed values without creating accuracy. The note gives the algebra, the four-beat algorithm, its specializations to symmetric, skew-symmetric, joint-diagonalization, separation, missing-data and streaming problems, and implementation guidance on memory layout, block sizes, placed double-double precision and logarithmic storage. Two identities are verified numerically. Nothing in the pipeline is yet implemented or benchmarked, and the note states this plainly, together with the three experiments that would decide it.
