Automation-guided RAFT copolymerization via semi-batch reaction for sequence control

Abstract Sequence control in radical polymerization plays a critical role in defining polymer properties, yet achieving such control typically relies on high-cost automated platforms with limited accessibility. Here, we present a semi-batch reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization strategy using a syringe pump as a low-cost and modular alternative to high-end robotic systems. Using the copolymerization of oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate and fluorescein o -acrylate as a model system, we directly benchmark this approach against previously reported Chemspeed-enabled workflows. The results highlight that syringe pump-based semi-batch systems can offer a practical and accessible alternative to fully automated platforms.
