Freedom: The appearance of the subject in a constituent move.
reedom is not possessed. It is crossed." This essay does not define all freedom. It isolates its live, constituent form: the event in which a person appears as the author of the move that makes a new possibility practicable in a maille. Person, subject, and functioning are kept apart: you are always a person; you are not always a subject; mostly, you function. Freedom is compatible with a complete causality of conditions, because causality describes the genesis of the move while freedom names what it reconfigures. Three marks identify a free crossing. And the grammar yields a political concept, dead freedom: rights legally intact in mailles that no move crosses anymore, by procedural closure or by expressive dissolution. Fourth of seven essays laying out the grammar of an ontology of passage: how local worlds live, hold, and die.
