Imaging Spectrum of Inflammatory Conditions of the Gallbladder

Abstract Gallbladder (GB) inflammation encompasses a diverse group of acute and chronic disorders that may overlap in imaging appearance with non-inflammatory and neoplastic conditions. Accurate differentiation among these entities is vital for guiding clinical management, especially in emergent and oncologic settings. Ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and hepatobiliary scintigraphy remain key diagnostic modalities for evaluating GB pathologies. Recently, advanced imaging techniques, such as contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and diffusion-weighted MRI, have enhanced diagnostic precision. This review outlines the imaging spectrum of inflammatory GB pathologies and highlights correlations with clinical findings as well as recent updates in the field.
