Persistent foetal vasculature with anterior retinal extension, anterior vitreous extension, and morning glory syndrome: a rare constellation of congenital ocular developmental anomalies
This case report describes a rare combination of persistent foetal vasculature, morning glory syndrome, anterior retinal extension, and anterior vitreous extension in a 3-month-old baby with congenital cataract. This constellation complicates clinical evaluation, surgical management, and functional and anatomical outcomes. The present case report highlights the significance of identifying multiple abnormalities before undertaking congenital cataract surgery. Families must be informed about these components before surgery. This rare constellation of congenital ocular developmental anomalies broadens the recognized phenotypic spectrum of ocular dysgenesis. As a single case report, this clinical observation should be regarded as hypothesis-generating and requires confirmation in additional well-characterized cases.
