Data Transmission via Optical Fiber Network
This working paper presents a practical study of data transmission via optical networks in industrial systems, focusing on the integration of fiber-optic communication with existing VDSL and Ethernet infrastructure. It examines the limitations of traditional copper cabling, particularly in industrial installations where buildings may be separated by significant distances and cable routing space is limited. The paper proposes an optical-fiber-based solution using a TP-Link TL-SG3210 managed switch, SFP modules, LC fiber-optic connections, and fiber distribution/patch panels to establish a 150-meter link between two installation points. The paper also reviews key concepts including VDSL, optical-fiber types, SFP technology, fiber termination, splicing, network configuration, VLAN, QoS, and redundancy. The proposed architecture demonstrates how optical networking can provide a flexible, reliable, and scalable communication infrastructure for industrial environments.
