A Study of the Role of Parents in Child Development

A Study of the Role of Parents in Child Development Dr. Rajesh Anupam Parents are the earliest and most influential agents in a child’s physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and moral development. Their parenting practices, emotional responsiveness, and involvement in education shape children’s behaviour, personality, academic achievement, and future social relationships. Positive parenting fosters confidence, communication skills, emotional security, and problem-solving abilities, whereas neglectful or harsh parenting may contribute to behavioural and psychological difficulties. This paper examines the multidimensional role of parents in child development by discussing parental interaction, responsive parenting, educational involvement, early childhood interventions, and the concept of parental scaffolding. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between parents and educational institutions in creating a supportive learning environment. The study concludes that empowering parents through awareness and education can significantly enhance children’s overall development and lifelong well-being.
