In Case You Haven't Heard…
A lawsuit filed in federal court accuses singer and actress Selena Gomez, her mother, Mandy Teefey, and other leaders of mental health startup Wondermind of defrauding investors, NBC News reported Aug. 13. Wondermind, co‐founded by Gomez, Teefey and Daniella Pierson in 2021, promotes mental fitness tools and wellness content. Investors allege the company misrepresented its finances, leadership, infrastructure and business partnerships while concealing problems for more than three years. According to the lawsuit, investors were told their funding would support expansion of Wondermind's app, podcast, editorial platform and other wellness offerings. The complaint alleges securities fraud and other fraud claims, including misrepresentations about Gomez's involvement, Pierson's business background and Teefey's qualifications to lead the company. Gomez's attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, called the allegations “completely meritless.” “We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her,” said Rosengart, according to People , as reported by KTVB (Boise, Idaho).
