Beyond Bookshelves: Future Librarians’ Perspectives on Children’s Services at Hong Kong Central Library

This study explores the perceptions of BSIM and MLIM students at The University of Hong Kong toward the children’s services at the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL). Surveying 101 students, the research found strong appreciation for HKCL’s safe, engaging environment and its support for children’s learning and social interaction. While students valued the digital infrastructure, they noted gaps in content and interactivity. Respondents emphasized the enduring importance of face-to-face, human-led services over technological replacements. Recommendations include diversifying programs, improving digital resources, and investing in staff development, affirming HKCL’s role as a dynamic community hub for children.
