A studio approach to teaching vibrations, waves, and optics

We discuss a studio approach to teaching vibrations, waves, and optics to sophomore and junior undergraduates with a class size of 50–70 students. The class sessions mix interactive lectures, demonstrations, activities, and experimental measurements. The majority of class time is spent with students actively engaged in peer-to-peer and instructor–student discussions. We retain the benefits of the studio approach despite the large class size and topics beyond the introductory level.
