First-of-its-kind 3D printed intravaginal ring for treatment of high-risk HPV (hrHPV) and early- stage cervical cancer
My research focuses on developing a first-of-its-kind, 3D-printed intravaginal ring (IVR) designed to treat high-risk Human Papillomavirus (hr-HPV) and early-stage cervical cancer. Current invasive treatments can cause major complications and are often inaccessible to low-income populations. This self-administered ring is designed to continuously deliver targeted doses of Lopinavir and Ritonavir directly to the site over 30 days to eliminate precancerous cells without harming surrounding healthy tissue. Testing of both Lopinavir-only and combination rings has demonstrated a sustained, zero-order release of the treatments, supporting their potential as a safe, accessible treatment that only needs to be replaced once a month.
