A Study on Sensors for Measuring Jerk
Abstract Jerk (in units of m/s 3 ) is the rate of change in acceleration versus time. Scientific research in recent years has shown that the measurement of jerks is highly important in engineering practice and for obtaining strong earthquake observations. Its corresponding dynamic quantity is the rate of change in the force versus time, which is closely related to the structural damage process. In this study, the structural principle, main technical indicators, calibration results and application cases of a sensor (also called a jerk meter) that can directly measure jerks are systematically introduced. The experimental results show that the sensor has good performance and good application prospects in structural seismic experiments and elevator comfort testing.
