Opportunities for implementing alternative energy sources to enhance energy efficiency in agriculture
The establishment of production processes in agriculture based on modern technologies is increasingly increasing the demand for energy resources. Irrigation and drainage systems, pumping stations, greenhouses, storage and processing of agricultural products, as well as the operation of various agricultural machinery and equipment require a certain amount of energy. In particular, the increase in energy prices and the instability of energy supply in some rural areas can seriously affect the costs of farms. In this regard, the use of alternative and renewable energy sources in agriculture is considered one of the important directions from both economic and environmental points of view. The article reviews the possibilities of using solar, wind, biomass, biogas and small hydropower sources to increase energy efficiency in agriculture. The application of solar energy, especially in the energy supply of irrigation pumps, greenhouses, cold storages and farm buildings, has wide opportunities. Solar-powered pumping systems can help solve the problem of irrigation in areas located far from the power grid. In addition, the conversion of organic waste generated in livestock farms into biogas allows both waste management and additional energy generation. The analysis shows that the application of alternative energy sources not only reduces energy costs, but also creates conditions for more reliable organization of energy supply of agricultural enterprises. At the same time, reducing dependence on fossil fuels helps to reduce the negative impacts on the environment. The presence of favorable opportunities for the use of solar energy in Azerbaijani conditions, the formation of sufficient biomass reserves in agricultural and livestock farms make the development of this direction even more relevant. However, issues such as initial investment costs, maintenance, the need for energy storage systems and the lack of qualified personnel should also be taken into account. Consequently, the selection of alternative energy technologies in accordance with the characteristics of farms, increasing state support and informing farmers about these technologies can make a significant contribution to improving energy efficiency in agriculture.
