Diastolic Leaks and Heart Failure - An Unusual Manifestation of Long-standing Complete Atrioventricular Block
Abstract Here, we report a relatively unusual clinical presentation of complete heart block (CHB). Elderly women presented with congestive heart failure and an electrocardiogram suggestive of CHB. Further evaluation with Doppler echocardiography showed severe diastolic regurgitation across both mitral and tricuspid valves with normal ventricular systolic function. Diastolic regurgitation disappeared after dual-chamber pacing, and there was a drastic improvement in heart failure symptoms.
