Application of Chitosan Nanoparticles in Tuberculosis meningitis Infections
Tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) is a life-threatening condition that requires both multi-drug regimens and prolonged treatment. These medications can lead to the development of drug resistance in TBM and may cause toxicity to surrounding tissues. Nanotechnology-based drug delivery approaches hold great promise for treating drug-resistant TB, as they enable precise targeting and controlled release of medications. Chitosan is widely used in the biomedical field due to its high biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antibacterial activity. Synergistic antibacterial effects are observed when chitosan is used in conjunction with antibiotics. One of the most common applications of chitosan-based nanoparticles is in drug delivery systems. This study highlights novel approaches being explored for the use of chitosan-based nanoparticles in the treatment of TB meningitis, including antibacterial chitosan nanoparticles and chitosan nanoparticles loaded with antibiotics.
