Jomon Addition
Example In this figure, two additions are visualized. The upper one shows 0+2=2. The lower one shows 2+3=5. The black arrows represent addition. 1. The author adds two points to zero points. 2. The author gets two points. 3. The author adds three points to two points. 4. The author gets five points. The author calls the zero points a zeroth result. The author calls the two points in the second item a first result. The author calls the five points in the fourth item a second result. The author rewrites this list as one sentence. 5. The author adds three points to the first result, where the author adds two points to the zeroth result. The author replaces the two points with x1 points. The author replaces the three points with x2 points. Then, the author gets the following sentence. 6. The author adds x2 points to the first result, where the author adds x1 points to the zeroth result. Generalization The author generalizes the above addition. There exists a sum 0 + x1 + x 2+ x3 +… + xn, where 0 is denoted as x0. 1. The author adds xn points to the (n-1)th result, where the author adds xn-1 points to the (n-2)th result, …, where the author adds x1 points to the zeroth result. Visualization This figure shows 2+3=5. From the central point of three points, two joining lines extend and connect to the two points. Then, five points are formed. Definition Definition 1. An addition of xn points to xm points is an action where an object connects the central point of xn points to every point of xm points with joining lines.
