Abrasion Coastal Cliffs of Western Kamchatka
Abstract In Western Kamchatka, five types of abrasion coasts are distinguished between the Utkholok and Etolona rivers. The abrasion coast type predominates in the areas of development of magmatic formations on the western coast of the Utkholok Peninsula, as well as on the Ovra and Omgon capes. It has steep slopes, wave-cut niches and abrasion terraces (benches). The abrasion–landslide type of coast is characterized by large landslides, the frontal parts of which reached the level of wave impact. An example is the landslide south of Cape Ovra. The abrasion–landslide type of coast was formed with steep (more than 40°–50°) bedding of rocks. This type of coast is typical for the areas of Cape Babushkin and the mouth of Tochilo Creek. The abrasion–landslide–avalanche type of coast was formed in the area of unevenly deformed Cenozoic sedimentary rocks in the Tochilo section. The abrasion–denudation type of coast is developed in areas with gently sloping or horizontal rock bedding in the north of the Tochilo, Maynach, and Uvuch sections. The abrasion–denudation inactive type of coastline consists of high cliffs, the slopes of which are covered with vegetation to varying degrees.
