GenAI Video Tools in News Production and Journalism Education

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is beginning to reshape journalism, but the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered video tools in news production and journalism education remains cautious and uneven. This syndicate examined the current state of GenAI video tools and considered how journalism educators can prepare students for a media environment increasingly influenced by assistive technologies. Participants agreed that while AI can improve efficiency in tasks such as transcription, translation, and content organization, it also raises serious concerns about trust, transparency, authenticity, and the erosion of foundational journalistic skills. The discussion underscored that journalism education must address these challenges directly by establishing ethical guidelines, integrating AI into the curriculum with a clear purpose, and emphasizing the human capacities AI cannot replicate.
