Demoting the Imaginary Unit (i) from Ontology to Apparatus: The Universal Principle of Collapse (UPC)
Mainstream quantum mechanics suffers from a terminal case of Model-Object Confusion. For a century, interpretational physicists have looked at the presence of the imaginary unit (i) in the Schrödinger equation, concluding that subatomic reality isnatively composed of complex numbers. By mapping the quantum mathematical formalism onto the Universal Principle of Collapse (UPC) operator chain, this paper delivers a definitive structural audit: (i) is not an intrinsic feature of nature found inthe unobserved dirt; it is a non-ontological calibration parameter located strictly within the Model Domain (MO). Multiplying by (i) is the literal mechanical equivalent of the scientist actively turning a dial on their mathematical apparatus to execute a 90degree spatial rotation, artificially enforcing mathematical unitarity so their calculation engine does not crash or bleed probability. By restoring the active human observer (Jo) as the upstream source of the parameter, the “Measurement Problem” isinstantly dissolved. The math cannot observe itself.
