Discursive-Informational Flattening in Scientific Abstracts: A Pilot Study with the Taxonomy of Informational Gestures (CF-C)

This preprint reports a qualitative, exploratory pilot study applying the CF-C Taxonomy of Informational Gestures to six Applied Linguistics abstracts, originally in Brazilian Portuguese, translated into English under three mediation conditions. The taxonomy is anchored in Socio-Discursive Interactionism (ISD) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP/ERPP) studies, and is proposed as an analytical instrument for describing discursive-informational flattening (DIF) in AI-mediated academic translation. This deposit includes both the English version and a Portuguese translation of the same article. An anonymized version of this manuscript, prepared for blind peer review, is also available at SSRN: https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.6956758. This preprint complements the CF-C Instruments deposit (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21351930) and the CF-C Program project on OSF (DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/R7CYW).
