Host-specific nematicidal activity of Serratia odorifera INTA L401-1 against nematodes from different ecological niches

In this study, as an alternative to chemical control, nematicidal activity of Serratia odorifera INTA L401-1 was evaluated against plant-parasitic nematode (PPN) Nacobbus aberrans, model nematode Panagrellus redivivus, and entomopathogenic nematodes – Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (SUP and RN strains) and Steinernema rarum SAL – due to the original association of the strain with this group. Bioassays mortality results exceeded 70% in N. aberrans and P. redivivus, while remaining below 2.5% in entomopathogenic nematodes. These results indicate niche-dependent nematicidal activity and highlight the potential biocontrol of PPNs and compatibility of INTA L401-1 with entomopathogenic nematodes strains in integrated pest management programmes.
