Factors associated with contraceptive method use among women with chronic diseases in central Türkiye: a cross-sectional study
This study was conducted to determine the use of contraceptive methods (CM) among women with chronic diseases (CD) in central Türkiye and identify the factors associated with this use. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 451 women aged 18–49 years who were registered at a family health center in Türkiye and had at least one CD. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of 46 questions. Descriptive statistics and crude and multivariable binary logistic regression analyses were used. Overall, 61.4% of participants were currently using a CM, and 24.8% had received contraceptive counseling after CD diagnosis. Copper intrauterine devices, condoms, and tubal ligation were the most frequently used current methods. In the adjusted model, CM use was associated with employment, income exceeding expenses, regular medication use, having two or more births, and the absence of future pregnancy intention. It was determined that six out of every 10 women with CDs used CMs, but they did not receive adequate counseling on this matter. Therefore, considering risk groups, awareness of CM use in the presence of CDs should be increased among both women and healthcare professionals, and appropriate counseling services should be provided.
