Experimental Dataset on the Free-Rocking Response of Masonry Blocks
This Data Note presents an openly accessible dataset obtained from an experimental campaign on free-standing limestone blocks under free vibration. The scientific outcomes of the campaign were previously reported in a companion research article, whereas the present contribution focuses on publishing, documenting, and facilitating reuse of the underlying experimental data. The dataset comprises 135 tests covering 12 block height-to-width ratios and incorporating nominally identical specimens. It contains both raw Digital Image Correlation measurements and processed results, including the full reconstruction of the three-dimensional block motion and the estimation of relevant features of the rocking motion. Particular attention is given to energy dissipation at impact through the angular coefficient of restitution, evaluated using three approaches based on angular velocities, potential energy, and combined potential and frictional energies. An additional estimate of impact energy dissipation is provided through the normal coefficient of restitution. The experimental setup, acquisition strategy, processing workflow, variable definitions, and dataset organisation are described to support interpretation and reproducibility. By documenting the complete campaign, this Data Note supports the probabilistic validation and calibration of analytical and numerical models, as well as further analyses beyond the scope of the companion publication. The dataset is available at https://experiments.builtenvdata.eu/ under DOI https://doi.org/10.60756/uminho-jh25.
