The Nexus between Electronic Engineering and National Development: The Imperative of Skill Qualification Framework.

Electronic engineering serves as the foundational pillar for global digital transformation and modern industrial advancement. This paper explores the critical intersection between electronic engineering and national development, highlighting the progression from early electrical science and semiconductor breakthroughs to advanced digital automation, embedded systems, and nanotechnology. By analyzing Nigeria's current technological landscape, the study identifies significant skill gaps, capacity challenges, and an ongoing disconnect between industry and academia. To bridge these divides, the paper emphasizes the strategic imperative of implementing the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) alongside Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET). Furthermore, the sustainable management and recycling of electronic waste—specifically Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) TV receivers—are examined as viable pathways for economic resource recovery. Ultimately, policy roadmap recommendations are proposed to align educational curricula, enhance research and development, and drive sustainable industrialization.
