Results of a 6-month therapeutic programme regarding the angle of trunk rotation in girls aged 8–11: a randomised trial

Screening and regular exercise are essential in preventing postural disorders in children. This 6-month randomized controlled trial evaluated the effects of individual and group therapy on transverse plane postural deformities in girls aged 8–11 years. 66 girls were randomized into three groups: Group I received individual physiotherapy based on the Functional Individual Therapy of Scoliosis (FITS) method ( n = 22); Group II underwent group corrective exercises ( n = 21); and Group III served as an observational control group ( n = 22). 65 participants completed the study and were included in the final analyses. The angle of trunk rotation (ATR) was measured using a scoliometer, and transverse plane parameters were assessed via the DIERS Formetric III 4D system. An improvement of over 4 measurement units was observed in Group I for the krtl variable. For the krtth1 and krtth2 variables, the improvement was smaller yet clear and statistically significant relative to Group III. For the DIERS parameters, strong effects were observed for atrth1 and amp. In conclusion, both group corrective gymnastics and individual FITS exercises improved transverse plane postural parameters in the studied population. These findings suggest that exercise-based interventions may be beneficial for addressing transverse-plane postural abnormalities in girls aged 8–11 years.
