YouTube, Black Hair and the Oppositional Gaze
I want to delve into the issues of what it takes to be prominent and well-known online as well as the repercussions and the effects it has in order to uphold a certain image/persona if one does. I also want to delve into the issue of popularity of a beauty guru and compare the dynamics of how a guru is treated and viewed and their work ethic of maintaining their popularity as well as trying to increase their views. From this, I would like to look into gurus like Jackie Aina, Tatiana Maria, and Dymond Goods in order to gain a wider perspective into the world of 3 beauty gurus all at different stages of “status” in the YouTube beauty community based on their race as well as their content.
